Read the following text carefully and try to understand as much of it as possible without making use of a dictionary.

Below there are a number of statements based on the information you have just read in the text above. Look at them carefully and decide which of the alternativetenses is clearly right.

The text below is in three parts. Give the correct forms of the verbs in brackets (you need not write down the complete sentences!), noting that different verb forms are required in each of the three sections.

C: VOCABULARY
Fill in the blanks in these groups of sentences with one of the words given. Put the word in the correct form (verb, noun, adjective, opposite, etc.). Use each word only once. Send us the complete sentences.

D: COMMENT
Please choose TWO of the following questions and write between 150 and 180 words on each.

1. Look again at the text dealing with George’s problem (Unit 3). Imagine you are Sandra Pryor and now have to answer George’s letter. Write down the advice that you would personally give.

2. You have decided you would like to work for a voluntary organisation (the Samaritans or any other you choose). Write a letter to the organisation, explaining something about yourself and your reasons and qualifications (if any) for wanting to help.
