Before you start this homework, it is a good idea to go back through the input of this unit. As you will send this homework to your tutor, there are no answers in the key.
There are three parts to this homework: vocabulary, grammar, text production.
Part 1: Vocabulary test

Have you completed all the vocabulary exercises on money and finance, and exercises on crime in Unit 8 of the course book?
If you are not sure of the meaning of any words, find it out before starting the test.

Part 3: Text production
Checklist for writing a discussion
Remember to write roughly the right number of words (about 350). Count them and make a note of the number!
Your essay needs a separate paragraph for the introduction, conclusion, and several paragraphs for each new point in the body of the essay.
Start each paragraph with a signalling word (firstly, additionally, contrary etc.).
Make sure you vary your language (In my opinion, I firmly believe, I’m quite sure etc.).
Give examples to back your argument up.
Remember to use formal language, no abbreviations, and capitals where necessary.
4. Assignment:
Choose one of the following two options.
Option 1: text-based composition
Look again at the text ‘Is it time to give up on cash?’ on page 94 of the course book.
“In our bright, shiny, plastic, cashless society maybe things are not as wonderful as we think they are” (part of the final paragraph on page 94).
Explain the quote above in relation to the whole text of Is it time to give up on cash?
Comment on the advantages and disadvantages of a cashless society (own ideas).
Option 2: Discussion
“Social media has convinced us that the only way to be happy is to be rich and possess everything that you have ever wanted.” Discuss.
Write about 350 words.
